Behind The Lens

Location

I live in The Illinois Valley of Southern Oregon, where we have many beautiful parks. This beautiful lady agreed to model for me there at our state park.

Time

This was taken in the late afternoon, about 3:30

Lighting

The lighting was great because the sun was slowly heading to sunset, making nice lighting through the trees in the park.

Equipment

I used a Nikon Z6 mirrorless camera which gives a softer look to portraits.

Inspiration

I have been looking for a model for a long time now and happened to find one at our local ice cream shop. Her name is Kazzie, and I just loved how bubbly her personality was. Kazzie is such a natural beauty that I decided we would go to the state park and its natural forest look.

Editing

I did slight cropping and brought out more color, but other than that, nothing else.

In my camera bag

I carry along a blower to clean out any dust that might have gotten in my camera which is often since I live in the countryside. At least 3 lenses to give me options, cleaning supplies, water, and a healthy snack so I don't run out of energy. I am not fond of tripods but I bring at least one along anyway and a first aide kit because you never know.

Feedback

Have a relaxed atmosphere with your model. Take time to get to know her. Do a shoot before your main shoot, so you know what to make a note of the next time you two are doing photography. Make sure the model feels like she has whatever she needs. I offer to pay for the model to get their hair and nails done, so they feel beautiful. Let them know what sort of clothes to wear if you don't have something already for them.
