The Beaulieu river flows into this mill pond before going through sluce gates and down through the Beaulieu estate before reaching the Solent off the south coast near Southampton. By operating the sluice gates the river is tidal below them. Some of the housing forming part of the Beaulieu Estate, owned by Lord Montague, can be seen on the far side.
