Behind The Lens

Location

This was taken in my backyard the day I bought the camera. Flowers were in bloom in the garden

Time

This was just after dinner around 6 in the evening. We wanted to get out for some golden hour shots

Lighting

I wanted the camera to shine but I also wanted my son to be a secondary subject. So I had them stand in front of the dark pines to give them the focus. Just used the natural light available.

Equipment

This was shot with my 85mm 1.8 on my Nikon z7. No other equipment was used.

Inspiration

I saw my son playing with the camera and he was so interested in it. He was confused how it showed the reverse image in the rangefinder. So I told him to go out back and take a couple shots to learn

Editing

Not too much. I used a radial filter to lighten the camera area to make it pop more. Desaturated the image and added a little clarity.

In my camera bag

I have a Nikon z7 with a range of primes. 20mm 1.8, 35mm 1.8, 50mm 1.8, 85mm 1.8, and a 105mm 2.8. Usuallybhave my Godox AD200 pro as well with some gels. Assortment of ND and CP filters for the lenses.

Feedback

I would say just be ready for those moments when a candid photo presents itself. Organic unposed photos are more genuine in my opinion and when you’re ready for them, it’s worth it
