Common Wall Lizards (Podarcis muralis) peak out of a den site on a sunny winter day in western Germany.

I was blessed this New Year's Day with an absolutely unexpected surprise: a winter reptile sighting in Germany! I absolutely did not think my first herp of the year would be on 1 January, but I guess God knew I needed a mid-winter reptile fix. I got to watch over a dozen of these little guys skitter around near their den hole during a sunny stretch.
