Why did I choose to take this photo? After weeks of ignoring my files, I think to myself, "What was I thinking?" The file looks awful, lackluster and, unimpressive in its unedited raw state. Once I pushed past the self-doubt (it never goes away) and began editing the image, Why did I take this photo? What made me stop in my tracks and take this photo? The thought never occurred to me to ask why. I did what I always do. I sift through photos and hope that I have that photographic epiphany that never happens while I push and pull sliders to no avail. After spending a few days with this image and bringing it to life, I showed it to my wife and her reaction gave me the confidence and inspiration to keep at photography (I've told her countless times I want to sell all my gear give up the hobby). I still come back to the question: Why did I take this photo? It wasn't until today that I realized why. It wasn't until two days after I finished with the image that I captured what caught my eye at the time - the sheer wonder of the mountains and the resulting image is how I saw the world through my eyes at that moment in time. Is it the best photo I've taken? Probably not, but it's not the worst either. Are there other photos that are better than mine? Absolutely! But this is the best photo I took at that moment in time and the resulting image is my interpretation of that moment. I hope you enjoy it.
