I took this photo in my studio in Finale Emilia, near Bologna, Italy.Time
I cannot remember the exact time, because I had different photo sessions with the model at different times of day. As I wanted to use artificial lighting, we shut all windows and kept on taking photos for quite a long time, even 2 or 3 hours each session, so actually the time of day was not important.Lighting
For all these photo sessions I used artificial lighting: actually just one powerful lamp to the right of the model. This is apparent from the light on the right part of her body, above all on her right shoulder, and in fact I had to correct this excessive light in post-processing. I did so because the light from the lamp was filling the studio quite evenly, just by keeping it about 3 meters from the model, and on a very tall stand, about 2 meters high. I wanted to get a very soft lighting without using much equipment.Equipment
I used a cheap camera, a Canon PowerShot SX20IS on a tripod. No flash, nothing else. Good pictures can be taken even with a simple equipment, if you have the right subject.Inspiration
I was inspired by the beauty of the human body. Nothing else, just the sheer beauty of the female body. I wanted to depict this beauty in the simplest possible way and environment: no frills, nothing distracting, as if the girl is suspended in the air. Well, of course she had to stay on a table because she could not levitate, but that is actually what I was aiming at: just pure beauty and nothing else. Just one concession to conventions: her panties!Editing
As I mentioned, I had to correct some excessive light on the right part of the model's body, because of the position of the single big lamp to her right and above her. So I darkened a bit her right shoulder in post-processing, otherwise it was definitely too light. In my camera bag
Usually a Canon 6D with Canon 24-105 zoom, as actually I am mainly a landscape photographer, or even more precisely a nightscape photographer. Manfrotto Tripod and some filters, above all polarizers. Not much.Feedback
Get a beautiful model! Seriously, a beautiful model will make things a lot easier, during the photo session and in post-processing. She might be professional or not, but in any case she should be beautiful, if you want to portray beauty. Sounds logical, right? In that case, you do not need too much equipment, but be patient, be very patient, and put her at ease: remember that she is a person, not a landscape or a beautiful car, and you might have to take and discard dozens of photos before the model relaxes enough as to give the best of herself! Besides that, beware of the details, even when you are tired after some hours of photos.
