Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken during feeding time at the tiger enclosure in Flamingo Land Zoo in England. Bawa the tiger was chewing on a huge piece of meat and I thought that this dropped part of the full image worked perfectly

Time

This was taken in mid afternoon

Lighting

Luckily it was a sunny day which provided great lighting on the tiger and assisted in focusing with high clarity

Equipment

I had my trusty Canon 100D (also called a Rebel) camera with Sigma 150mm - 600mm lens. This lens was my best purchase of 2020 and helped me get some of my all time favourite photos

Inspiration

I love all big cats, particularly tigers. Usually they are sat in the distance doing nothing so I was eager to capture a more dramatic shot when I found out it was feeding time

Editing

I used photoshop to initially crop tgd image and then to blacken out the background in order to keep the focus purely on the amazing tiger, with no other distractions

In my camera bag

Always have my Sigma 150mm - 600mm lens, along with the standard Canon 18mm - 55mm lens. I also pack a body harness so that I can hook my camera and lens to it, thus removing and weight from around my neck

Feedback

Keep trying. Focus on the eyes and stay as still as possible. Assess the final images and see if a crop would be better than the whole image. Sometimes less is more
