Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in Avila, Spain. After landing in Madrid we headed to Salamanca.... but decided to make a stop in this beautiful place. This is an ancient walled city, and we are standing right in front of the Museum of Santa Teresa

Time

Still summer time, around 7pm. We walked the city for a while and then tried to visit the museum, but it was already closed. There are pretty things around this area but this composition attracted me very much, with the dusk lighting at the background. Taken on August 20th, 2021

Lighting

Fortunately the sun was behind me and the scene behind the wall was pretty lit. However there was a contrast and had to compensate a bit for exposure.

Equipment

I used my Nikon D800 and a Nikon lens 24-70 mm f2.8

Inspiration

This was very spontaneous as we were wandering in this place, tried to visit the museum, walked through the esplanade and then I had a view of this gate. Sometimes I take pictures of doors and this view attracted me because of the background, well defined and lit.

Editing

Did the typical with Camera Raw of Photoshop and then a bit of light with Luminar AI. Clouds are part of the processing.

In my camera bag

Usually it is the camera, Nikon D800, this lens, 24-70mm f2.8 and sometimes a Samyang 14mm f2.8 and a Sigma 50mm f1.4. Sometimes I add a Sigma 70-200 f2.8, a Sigma 105 mm f2.9 Macro, tripod Manfrotto, a GPS, filters (mainly ND's)

Feedback

No doubt that sun at dusk (clear sky, good wether) offer a great lighting and a warm spectrum. Dawns and Dusks provide the best lighting conditions so you can play with different settings. Just be careful to capture your compositions asap as this time window flies.
