Location
This was taken while on a walk along the Cromford canal with my wife and pet dog.Time
This is probably one of my favourite images from the walk. We had set off early as we dropped our daughter off at work in nearby Matlock Bath at 8 A.M so were parked up in Cromford and ready to walk at around 8:15. It was a beautiful early spring morning with just a hint of mist in places over the water and beautiful light.Lighting
The lighting is all natural. I always try to capture an image as naturally as possible and the light on this particular morning was superb. It was so good that I didn't need to use any artificial light sources.Equipment
This image was shot using my trusty Canon EOS 7D Mark 2 and Sigma 18-250mm lens set at f11. It was shot handheld with a shutter speed of 1/40sec.Inspiration
I liked the scene and the way it was lit. I think the image tells a story of the history of the canal and the industry that thrived along its banks. The canal is steeped in history and played a crucial role in supporting the mills of the derwent valley. The in the reflections helped add to the scene.Editing
I do all of my post processing in Affinity Photo, although I only do a minimum amount of editing mainly for shadows, highlights, contrast etc.In my camera bag
I always carry my Canon 7D mark 2, sigma 18-250mm and Sigma 10-20mm lenses. I also often carry my Sigma 150-600m contemporary lens as I'm always looking for opportunities to capture wildlife.Feedback
Derbyshire has some amazing places and is full of heritage. Its always worth exploring off the beaten track but don't be put off to try and capture what has been shot before, previous images are a fantastic source of inspiration and learning, and remember, you can always put your own spin on it by editing differently.
