Location
The Skagit Valley in western Washington is an incredible farmland and features several tulip and daffodil farms in the springtime. A crop of tulips is planted in this particular field once every few years. There are several colors of tulips in the field and last year it happened to be yellow planted near the barn.Time
It was late in the evening, just before sunset.Lighting
The sun was close to setting and was coming from the right. The clouds showed a little color, but not much. I decided to enhance the sky by replacing it with a little more color in the clouds.Equipment
My camera was a Canon T6s on a tripod with a Canon 18-135mm lens.Inspiration
I had seen a wonderful photo from this location taken years before by a great photographer named Doug Shearer and had been waiting for the field to be planted with tulips again. Last year was my chance to get the picture I was waiting for. I spend a lot of time wandering through the Skagit Valley looking for photo opportunities, especially for tulips in the springtime.Editing
I shoot all my photos in RAW and the post-processing is done with ON1 Photo Raw. I sharpen, crop, enhance colors and adjust contrast with this software. This is done by creating different layers with different effects and blending them together for the final image. In my camera bag
I now have a Canon EOS 90D camera with 4 different lenses. A 60mm macro lens, a 18-135mm telephoto lens, a 55-250mm telephoto lens and a 100-400mm telephoto lens. All are Canon lenses.Feedback
Have patience. Waiting for the right time and place rewards yourself with a good result. Also, do a lot of images and explore different types of photography.
