As you probably know already from some of my previous post; this is one of my favorite region of Switzerland. Spectacular natural beauty, lots of lakes, gets very less crowded as soon as you go a bit away from St Moritz; what else a photographer needs?

Lake autumn and winter here is absolutely stunning; with late autumn being by far the best when the trees still have the golden shine and the fresh snow. Every time I see this picture; I can kind of smell those fresh snow and feel that cool breeze on my face. A feeling that can only be experienced and can't be explained.

Anyway; I tried to capture this image consecutive 4 evenings. Finally my persistent paid off. Ok, still not probably the best possible sunset; but better than a completely flat sky.

And the timing is also perfect. Because this place is very close to Italian border and a lots of Italians come here to work and this is the time for them to go back home. So you get a lots of car on this spiral Maloja Pass. The tail lights of the car light up the road. Fantastic subject for photography. Mix that with other components like the autumnal Larches, fresh snow and a lovely sunset. Wow; all boxes are ticked.

Sounds simple; but it is not. Now a days due to global warming snow is reducing. So snow during late October doesn't last long. It snows with a bad weather and in couple of days that snow disappears. On top those Larches become fragile at this time of the year. So the first snow take down all the colors. On top; a lovely sunset is not that common either at this part of the world.

So you need to get there just after the first snow of the late autumn and should have luck to get a decent sunset. Sometime this doesn't happen at all for few years. But this time; I was lucky enough to capture something that is actually not that common phenomenon.
