Behind The Lens

Location

Damgaard Mill is one of Denmark's best-preserved mills, located near my hometown and it's still able to grind grain and process buckwheat into flour and groats.

Time

this picture is the coldest one I have ever taken, it was the morning of 13.02.2021 I have made my mind up that I wanted to take a sunrice picture where the mill was in silhouette so I have plan everything the evening before and when out at 7:00 in the morning I had lucky not looked at the temperature gauge else I would not have when out, but just before I arrived at the site the morning news came on in the radio and they told that it was -14 degrees celsius outside which is around 6.8 Fahrenheit I knew it would be cold as there was snow outside so I had my hat and gloves where the fingers could be open so I have better control of the camera but it was hard to have just 2 fingers out for few minutes

Lighting

the lighting is just the morning sun

Equipment

my tripod , Nikon Z 6 and NIKKOR Z 24-70mm f/2.8 S the settings was f5.0 1/5 iso 100

Inspiration

I always wanted to try to take a silhouette picture of something with the evening or morning sun in the background but I had hard time to find a location which had the sun at the right location and nothing that would block the sun before it would get to height in the sky and then 1 morning I was pasning by the mill and saw the sun at the location and I knew that I 1 day would comeback and take the shot

Editing

not much the camera raw settings are Temperature 7100K Tint +1 Exposure +0,95 highlights -16 shadows -100 blacks +4 contrast +13 vibrance +52

In my camera bag

my Nikon Z 6 with the 24-70mm attached 1 sb900 and sb5000 and sometime my old 14-24mm or 70-200mm that more or less what I have in my bag

Feedback

always look out for location you sometimes don't have to travel fare from your home to find the perfect spot 1 advice if you are going out in the winter month then always take some warm clothes with you, it could be that morning or day where it's very cold outside and you will missed the shot because it was to cold
