Behind The Lens

Location

This is beside my home in Woodstock, Ohio.

Time

This was around 8 in the morning, as the day warmed up, this hoar frost was gone.

Lighting

Just natural lighting, diffused by the overcast. I was aiming primarily towards the north.

Equipment

Simply hand held Nikon Coolpix P530, set to macro.

Inspiration

This is a somewhat unusual local phenomena and I immediately knew I wanted to capture the delicate crystals.

Editing

I used Lightroom to make basic lighting corrections and to crop slightly. Nothing much.

In my camera bag

In this case, I simply carried the camera. I have a photo backpack that holds all my DSLR gear. That holds my Nikon D3300, 4 lenses, flash, cables, memory cards, spare batteries for the flash and camera, lens cleaning supplies, even can strap on a lightweight tripod.

Feedback

The morning after freezing fog is forecast, get up early and scout out your locale. When the light comes up you have only to capture the shot.
