Location
Bowman's Hill Wildflower Preserve, a 134 acre nature preserve and botanical garden, near New Hope, Pennsylvania.Time
It had rained for a few days before this, The day was quite warm and humid. This was late afternoon around 5:00 and quite frankly on my way out of the preserve. Rather than along the wonderful trails here, This shot was from the drive out of the preserve, photographed out the drivers side window. (We need to take advantage of our opportunities, right?)Lighting
Simply outdoor natural light.Equipment
Nikon D3300 and the "kit" lens, 200mm zoom. I have a UV filter on all my lenses to protect them. This was a photograph of opportunity, rather than careful planning.Inspiration
My son and I were visiting relatives in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. He and I needed a few hour break from the relatives, so we went for scenery and a beautiful walk in this preserve. I strongly recommend it if you don't have mobility issues. Plenty of opportunities for flora and also fauna, so I brought my backpack with all my lenses so I could switch to macro or whatever. We were leaving by car and saw this outside my window. I stopped the car for a moment, grabbed my camera, switched it on and took this shot, all within 10 seconds or so.Editing
3 years ago, my processing was limited to correcting minor exposure issues and cropping. I believe I used Nikon's "free software" included with the camera. In my camera bag
I love my photo-backpack. It holds the camera body, 2 kit lenses, a 90mm Tamron macro and 70-300 Tamron zoom. I have a flash, spare batteries and memory cards, chargers and cables. I can strap on a lightweight tripod if needed and it has a built in rain cover (for the backpack).Feedback
I'm not a pro, so my advice is: The best camera is the one you have with you. I have an "ultra-zoom" Coolpix P530 that lives in my car. Everybody's got a cell phone these days. I like the DSLR, but that's for more of a planned outing for me. These days the Coolpix captures the most of my images as it is generally near at hand.
