Beach shoot with Emily. It wasn't the best weather. It was windy and stormy but all the grey makes the red pop. Shot on Canon EOS R with RF 50mm F1.2

Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was taken at the main beach Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia.

Time

It was late afternoon, however, a storm was coming in and it was windy and very overcast.

Lighting

As it was getting dark and the rain cloud coming in. I had the model facing into Where the sun would be, due to the overcast weather, it acted as a giant softbox to create a very soft wrapped around lighting.

Equipment

It was shot with a Canon EOS R mirrorless camera and the beautiful Canon RF 50mm F1.2.

Inspiration

I always wanted to get a Harper Bazaar style beach and bikini fashion editorial shoot, unfortunately, the weather wasn't a typical Gold Coast sunny blue sky.

Editing

Adobe Lightroom was used to adjust the exposure, highlight and shadows, then imported into Adobe Photoshop for retouching. Frequency separation for skin, curve to boost highlight and darken some area.

In my camera bag

I travel light and usually in my camera bag will include one Camera body Canon EOS R, RF 50mm f1.2, EF 85mm f1.4, Canon ST-E2 wireless transmitter and a Canon 600EX-II Speedlight.

Feedback

I love the quality of natural light, later in the afternoon is best to capture that warm orange glow of the sunlight which warms up the skin.
