Behind The Lens

Location

This image is of Deoria Tal (Lake in Uttarakhand). There is a trek of about 3 kms from the village to reach this beautiful camping site. The trek also if very beautiful with amazing views of mountains.

Time

I reached this camping site by late evening so stayed in the camp at night. First thing I did after waking up is to explore the area esp. the Lake and started clicking pictures from different angles.

Lighting

It was an overcast day so and not enough lighting in this picture. All this clarity is because of Post Production in both Lightroom and Photoshop.

Equipment

This was shot on Nikon D5300 with basic kit lens 18-55mm and used a tripod as I needed a longer shutter speed to get proper exposure.

Inspiration

I keep entering contests and challenges and was inspired by the amazing lake photographs shared by other members. Had this thing in the back of my mind that's why decided to plan a trip where I can try my hands in Lake Photography.

Editing

Yes, a lot. Since there was not enough lighting when I clicked. So, a lot of processing was required in Lightroom. I boosted some Saturation and Ambience as well other then increasing some clarity. I must have tweaked almost all the settings a little bit during editing ;) Additionally, sky was pretty boring with almost no details in clouds so had to work in Photoshop as well to fix that.

In my camera bag

It depends where I am going. Normally, I always carry my only camera Nikon D5300 + 18-55mm lens along with spare batteries and memory cards. I also have a 50mm prime which is great for portraits, Sigma 105mm for macro and Tamron 150-600mm for bird photography and wildlife.

Feedback

My biggest challenge was lighting. So, my advice will be to know the conditions well and how to counter it either by adjusting settings in camera or in post processing. I did a mix of both to achieve the result I wanted. Secondly, you should be clear in your mind about the output you want.
