Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in a nearby park which is about 3 kms from my place. I am a hobbyist photographer who loves capturing moments mostly when I go for vacations. I love capturing nature, wildlife, flowers, my daughter, and finally anything and everything when I am trying something ;)

Time

It was around 8 in the morning in February. I recently bought a new macro lens (Sigma 105mm) after looking at some amazing macro shots of flowers and insects in photography contests. So, decided to buy one but budget was also a problem for me. I did not wanted to spend too much for a macro lens since photography was only an hobby and not my profession. I asked my friend who was in Canada to purchase and hand over to me whenever he comes back to India. That's how I got this lens a bit cheaper than India. This photo was captured in February 2018.

Lighting

Since it was 8 in the morning and it was a bit cloudy. There was just enough lighting to capture this handheld without noise :) That day I woke up at 5:30 in the morning and by 6/6:15 I was in the park. The day was full of experiment, I took plenty of photos of flowers, insects and a few photos of flying honeybee carrying a little petal against flower (also in my profile).

Equipment

Didn't had Tripod that time and I do not use any external flash. So, I was carrying just my Nikon D5300 and Sigma 105mm lens along with a spare battery and memory card.

Inspiration

I was inspired by amazing macro shots of flowers and insects and often wondered how can I capture that much detailing in flowers/insects. That's when I got my macro lens (Sigma 105 mm). I am also a fitness freak so morning walks and going to park was normal routine for me. I knew there will be enough flowers in park to experiment with macro lens. This picture is one of my favorite shot of flower. Love the detailing and nice green blurred background.

Editing

Yes, I did some post processing after reaching home. Mainly, I enhanced the colors a bit along with a little noise reduction.

In my camera bag

Other than my Nikon D5300 I always carry 50mm prime lens which is a great lens. I do most of my photography with my prime lens only. Then I always carry a spare battery and a memory card just in case. All other equipment depends on where am I going and what I will be capturing. Like, I take Tamron 150-600 and basic 18-55 mm kit lens when going for wildlife photography.

Feedback

Well, I am not a professional photographer who can give professional advice. But I can tell you one thing basis my experience that one should always keep his/her eyes open for photographic opportunities. I was able to capture this beautiful flower because I regularly visited park and had seen many beautiful flowers there. There can be times when you plan to capture something and find some other interesting opportunities as well like my "honey bee against flower" photo. Lastly, patience is the key prepare well in advance what you are going to shoot and what all equipment you may need/require. But make this a habit to always carry a spare battery and memory card with you and test it before leaving from home.
