Location
This photo was taken in a popular spot for hiking, picnics and photography, known as Onaping Falls (also called High Falls), in the Sudbury, Ontario CANADA area,Time
It was mid-afternoon in late October.Lighting
The skies were heavily overcast and the weather alternated between rain, snow and freezing rain. This made for challenges not only with light but also with slippery rocks. There are lots of trees but considering the overcast, the shadows were not deep.Equipment
I was using a monopod (much easier to hike with), Sony A6000 with the kit lens (18 - 50 mm) set at 18mm.Inspiration
Onaping Falls is always a great inspiration in itself, having inspired many famous painters and photographers. The water was really high for this time of year and I really wanted to capture the sense of the rushing water.Editing
I processed in PSE 15 to bring out the clouds and more detail in the rocks along the shoreline, as well as add contrast for drama. .In my camera bag
Sony A6000, 18 - 55 mm E f3.5 lens and 55 - 210mm f4.5 lens. Sometimes I bring along the 70 - 300 G OSS FE 4.5 if I anticipate wildlife and I'm not walking too far. I also have a macro 30mm E f3.5 which I like to use with flowers and bugs mostly in my own or others' gardens.Feedback
I have a rain cover for my camera but I often forget it at home - to my regret. I now keep a towel in the car or in my bag to dry off the camera in rainy conditions. I'm often reluctant to go out in inclement weather but I'm so glad I did on this day. I'm also glad for the monopod (a convertable part of my tripod) for its light weight and easy maneuverability in rocky conditions like these - and it substitutes for a walking stick on the slippery ground!
