Location
This is a photo of a hanging basket on my front porch in late spring.Time
It was late in the afternoon and I was experimenting with a newly purchased marcro lens. While focusing in on the flowers, I noticed the sun rays filtering through and thought it was worth trying to capture. It worked out almost exactly as I'd hoped.Lighting
Since then I've done a number of shots of light filtering through plants when the sun is low in the afternoon. You can usually see exactly what you will capture.Equipment
Sony Nex 7 and Sony 30mm macro lens. Hand held. Natural light.Inspiration
I was just practicing with the macro when everything came together. Lucky: right time, right place.Editing
I did minimal post-processing, enhancing clarity and contrast. In my camera bag
I use Sony A6000 now as I was having occasional malfunctions on the Nex 7. Lenses: all Sony E 3.5/30 mm macro; E 3.5 - 5.6/18 - 55 OSS; E 4.5 - 6.3/55 - 210 mm OSS;FE 4.5 - 5.6/70 - 300 mm G OSS. Depending on what I am planning to shoot, I'll select 2 or possibly 3 of these lenses. If I'm going exploring with the 70 - 300, I'll bring a monopod. I usually bring a polarizing filter for landscapes. I use my tripod for shots at home or in locations where I won't be moving a lot. I have a mini-tripod that I bring if I'm hiking.Feedback
Pay attention to where the sun is and don't be afraid to shoot into the sun. Use a small aperture (at least f11) to get the suns rays.
