Behind The Lens

Location

Taken on the Bay of Quinte, Belleville, Ontario, Canada

Time

This was late afternoon, facing east, with the lowering sun at my back.

Lighting

Late afternoon sun here at this time of year has a slight yellow cast.

Equipment

Canon 7D Mark 11, with Canon 100-400MM f/4.5-5.6L IS II USM. Hand held.

Inspiration

We were in a park walking with our year and a half old grandson and I had taken my camera. There was a small bay beside the park with many Canada Geese, and at one point, they all started flying away in small groups...after seeing the first group go by I quickly got my camera set up for the next groups, panning as they flew past.

Editing

I cropped this photo to enhance the visual appeal, and adjusted the white balance to compensate for the heavy yellow cast.

In my camera bag

I have now upgraded to the Canon mirrorless R5, so I have it and the Canon RF 100-500 F4.5-7.1 L IS USM, with the 1.4 extender.

Feedback

This was one of those "in the moment", right place at the right time photos. I could have sat all day watching the geese and not have them fly by, so I was very lucky to be there and to have my photo equipment in hand at the time.
