Behind The Lens

Location

We were vacationing on an island just north of Kingston, Ontario, and these female Mallards came to visit one day.

Time

This was taken in the early morning, about 8:30 am, with the eastern sun on their faces.

Lighting

I liked the way the sun was highlighting their beaks and eyes, yet did not overtake the water.

Equipment

This was taken with my Canon 7D Mark II, and my 70-200mm f/4L USM. I had just started to get back into photography and this was the only lens I owned at the time.

Inspiration

I have always been interested in outdoor photography and took the chance when on the island to photograph everything I could. When I saw these three standing on this rock, I was excited about how the photo would turn out.

Editing

I did some cropping...the photo was taken through some trees and bushes at the water's edge, so I cropped out the blurry foreground.

In my camera bag

Now, I have just purchased the Canon R5 Mirrorless and am getting to know how it works LOL

Feedback

This was taken in the morning with early sun and I was please with the colour and light. Taking photos of waterfowl is always fun.
