It was very early in the morning. So peaceful and quiet. I found this place where I could be alone with God and the Grand Canyon. A precious moment frozen in time for me.

Location
This photo was taken early AM on very cold day at the Grand Canyon South rim. I had spotted the site day before but it was too late to take the photo that day. I have this picture printed on metal on my living room wall and when the sun shines on it, the picture lights up the entire room. It's like seeing the Grand Canyon for the first time every morning. I imagine I was the first one to discover the Grand Canyon and think about the days of creation, For me, this was a lifetime shot. I am thankful the day was perfect for taking photos. I am honored that you select this photo. Until recently, I normally did not share my photos with the public, never sold one (only gave them away as gifts), and never entered them in a contest. Viewbug convince me that a photo has no value unless it is seen. Thank you for that opportunity.Time
I got to the site about an hour before sunrise. It would have been around 5:00 AM.Lighting
I kept taking shots every couple of minutes for the next two hours hoping that one would align the sun in the perfect position and achieve the lighting affect I was looking for. At the same time was adjusting the aperture, shutter speed, and ISO constantly because I was looking directly into the sun and it would washout the foreground. I didn't want to risk using a flash.Equipment
I was using a Canon 60D with a 50mm lens mounted on a tripod. I didn't have a lot of room to setup but I manage to figure it out.Inspiration
I had visited the site day before but it was too late to capture the sunrise. The view was an extraordinary and I took some shots then but was not happy with results because of the lighting. It was about 9 AM then and sun just too high on the horizon. So I found out when the next day sunrise was going to occur and return then about an hour before sunrise.Editing
Yes minimal changes to the foreground lighting just enough you could some of the tree bark and surround shrubs details. I did not want take anything away from the sunlight coming thru the tree.In my camera bag
I carry 18mm, 50mm, 70-300mm, 150-600mm zoom lenses. A flash I seldom use. Normal lens cleaning kits, leveling tool for the tripod, spare batteries (camera and flash), spare memory cards.Feedback
Timing is crucial when you dealing sunrise and sunsets. If possible I plan ahead to be at the site at least an hour before it occurs and constantly taking test shots to adjust for the lighting with aperture, shutter speed, and ISO changes. Even after that, if I am not happy results and I have the available time, I will return the next day and start the process all over again.
