Behind The Lens

Location

This photo is taken behind a small royal castle in Stockholm, Sweden, called Karlbergs slott. There is a temple in the park behind the castle, built 1792 and the photo is taken of one of the steps leading up to the temple.

Time

This was on a sunny day, at noon in October.

Lighting

The steps was on the shady side of the temple, so it was quite dark. However, the yellow leaves really lights up the picture.

Equipment

I used a Canon 80D with a 85mm lens.

Inspiration

I was in the park, as I wanted to photograph some autumn leaves. I had tried to capture falling maple leaves from a huge tree without any great success. As I turned around to go home, I noticed the beautiful yellow leaves on the steps. The leaves and their texture were so soft and the dark steps so hard, so I found it made a wonderful contrast.

Editing

I just made some small adjustment to contrast, highlights and shadows.

In my camera bag

My Canon 80D is always in my bag. When I travel I normally use a 18-270 mm lens as it gives me great variety without having to change lens. But I use the Canon 85mm lens a lot for close ups and portraits.

Feedback

Beautiful settings can be around the corner, even on steps not to far away from your own home.
