Gray Heron in Flight

Photo I took of a Gray Heron flying over the wetlands of the Bolsa Chica Ecological Preserve near Sunset Beach, California where I often go on photo expeditions. I was lucky to capture an up-close shot of this magnificent bird in flight. The blue-gray variegated colors and the grace of these birds, whether fishing in slow motion or flying, make them an ideal subject for striking and memorable images. Although this species is not yet endangered, there may come a time in the foreseeable future when, like so many other species, they are so rare or extinct that photos may be the only evidence we have of these magnificent birds.
