Location
This photo was taken in Westcliffe, Colorado which is close to the Sangre de Cristo Mountains.Time
This photo was taken during a cold February morning as the sun was rising at about 6:30 am.Lighting
The photo was taken just last the sun was rising, which provided soft light as the horses were galloping through the fresh snow that had fallen the previous day.Equipment
Nikon D850 camera, Really Right Stuff tripod and a Tamron 70-200 f/2.8 lens. No flash was used.Inspiration
I was with a small group of photographers from Colorado visiting Music Meadows Ranch in Westcliffe Colorado. I was inspired by the beauty of the horses and the motion as they were rushing towards us.Editing
I used Adobe Lightroom to make slight adjustments to the highlights and shadows. The natural morning light was good and allowed for a good exposure without having to make many post processing adjustments. In my camera bag
I now carry a Nikon D850 and Nikon Z7 II and occasionally also bring a Nikon Z5 that has been converted to infrared. I also bring my Really Right Stuff tripod and a combination of lenses (Nikon, Tamron and Sigma).Feedback
For action shots, be sure to have the focus set to "continuous" and have the shutter speed up to a level that will prevent motion blur. A good way to do this is to shoot in shutter priority at a shutter speed of 1/1000 to 1/2000 shutter speed, set ISO to Auto and set a wide aperture such as f/2.8 or f/4 depending upon the lens used.
