Male Satin Bowerbirds don't get this full adult plumage until they are at least seven years old! This handsome fellow is in his prime!

Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at the fabulous O'Reillys Rainforest Retreat in Lamington National Park, Queensland, Australia.

Time

The wild birds come into the front of the retreat every morning around 6am to get a limited quantity of fresh fruit.

Lighting

It was early morning in the rainforest, so the light was soft and beautiful! Just enough to show off the gorgeous sheen!

Equipment

I use my Nikon D700 and 200-500 mm lens for all of my bird photography

Inspiration

The 7 year old (or older) male Satin Bowerbirds develop this lovely sheen to their feathers, but I also wanted to capture their amazing violet eyes.

Editing

The only post-processing done was to the original was to slightly crop and lighten.

In my camera bag

My Nikon D700, 200-500mm lens.
