Location
This photo was taken at one of my favourite locations - Finland Road, Bli Bli on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland , Australia. It is a spot where two passions combine. Bird counts for species and numbers with the bonus of great vantage points for photography.Time
This picture was taken not long after the sun came up around 6.30am.Lighting
This spot on Finland Road is absolutely perfect because the sun comes up behind you and illuminates the canals and pond areas and any birds that are there. The only thing to be mindful about is how big a shadow you cast!Equipment
This was shot with my Nikon D500, using the Nikon 200-500mm lens.Inspiration
This is an area where I regularly do bird counts and photography. There are both small waterlily lined canals and open fields that are bounded by eucalypt and paperbark forests which means the birdlife is diverse. I often sit under a tree on the edge of one canal to do the counts and because the other side is a Golf Course, the resident birds are quite used to people. I was very lucky to have this Darter come swimming by quite close.Editing
The only post-processing done to this photo was a very small amount of cropping to align the image and some noise reduction due to the low light levels. In my camera bag
I have my Nikon D500 body with a Nikon 200-500mm lens for bird photography, a Tamron 10-24mm for landscapes along with a set of extension tubes.Feedback
