Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo at Juanita Wetlands park in Kirkland Washington. The park is along the northeast side of Lake Washington. I go there frequently to photograph Waterfowl, Eagles and Osprey. There is a large resident group of invasive turtles in the wetland who line up on logs to sun themselves.

Time

I took this photo at 12:08 PM on June 28, 2020

Lighting

It was a mostly sunny day with high thin clouds. The sun was almost directly overhead and helped to accentuate the reflections

Equipment

Nikon D500 Nikon 500mm f/5.6 lens 1/800 at f/5.6 Handheld resting on walkway guardrail

Inspiration

There were a large number of turtles on the log, but this one in particular stood out and had a great reflection on the still water

Editing

I bumped up the contrast +42 and vibrancy +35 using Lightroom classic

In my camera bag

Depending on what I am shooting I generally have the Nikon D500 and D850 bodies, along with these Nikon lenses: 500mm f/5.6 PF ED 14-24mm f/2.8ED 50mm f/1.8 60mm macro f/2.8 ED 70-200mm f/4 ED Also: Gitzo Traveler series tripod Luma Cube light SB600 Speedlight

Feedback

I generally like to observe my subjects for a while when possible so that I can try different angles, shooting locations and compositions. Be patient and take your time to get to know your subject! Have Fun!
