sunrise at Clingmans Dome is so unpredictable that nobody really even tries. sure, if there's a 100% chance of rain for all of the Smokies then it's probably best not to even bother. but, on any given day.. even the sunniest of days..you could still be standing up there until late morning in t he fog. the other day i went up hoping for a lot of color and, although it was beautiful.. there just wasn't a lot of color to be found. as the sun started to rise above the horizon there was a break in the clouds with a thin stripe of color. so, instead of taking this shot as a full scene where the this famous tree on Clingmans Dome stands, i got my wildlife lens out, zoomed out to catch just the tree alone with the color behind it. i've taken more pictures of sunrise from up here than i can count but, as for the Dome Tree, this is probably my favorite portrait of it.
