Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in a studio on Hollywood Beach, Florida. It was raining and stormy outside, so the indoor location made the most sense.

Time

Even though the photo was taken around noon, the external light was subdued due to the bad weather outside. The sound of the rain, the soft light, and the model made it one of my favorite shots.

Lighting

Outside the storm downplayed the harsh midday sun, but inside the glow of the chandelier brought a lot of warmth and intimacy to the shot. I really enjoyed watching the light interact with the model and vice versa.

Equipment

This was shot with a Canon 7Ti, using the 18-55mm f/3.5lens, with an external box light.

Inspiration

I was very inspired by the mood of the room, the model, and the weather outside. I tried to create that feeling with this photograph; being sheltered in a warm haven from the elements outside, with beautiful company in a luxurious atmosphere. I think I was able to do my mind's eye justice.

Editing

There was no post processing done on this image.

In my camera bag

I like to think I have a lens for every occasion, and while they may not be the fanciest, they definitely produce quality images. So I have the basics which I use regularly, the 18-55mm f/3.5, and the telephoto 75-300mm Canon lenses, but I also have some favorites. My Canon EFS 24mm prime, for street photography and portraits, my Tamron AF 90mm f/2.8 macro, for when I want to get really close and my Tokina SD 11-20mm f/2.8 (IF)DX for those larger than life shots. I think anyone would be ready for anything with those.

Feedback

Get in touch with your surroundings. Try to reflect the mood that is around you. And definitely, having a beautiful model, who is talented, comfortable, and vibrant, always goes a long way.
