Location
I made this photograph about a 30 minute drive into the country just outside of Toronto, Ontario, Canada.Time
It was early in the afternoon that I saw this property as I drove around looking for opportunities to photograph.Lighting
It was a fairly bright, but overcast day. The natural and even lighting made it easier to capture a lot of the details present in the scene.Equipment
I was using a late 1970s Nikon FE manual 35mm film camera with a 35-70mm zoom lens. I originally shot this on Kodak Portra 400 color film and then converted to black and white while editing the final image.Inspiration
The subject matter and the scene itself made me think of some of the work of photographers like Minor White and Ansel Adams. That is what inspired me to make the final photograph in monochrome.Editing
I used Photoshop as well as Silver EFX Pro from the Nik Collection to create a vintage toned photo with a heathly dose of film grain. In my camera bag
These days, I mainly carry around my Fujifilm X-E3 with the XF 23mm F2 lens attached. I find the small form factor and excellent image quality an easy choice to carry around and get great results in shooting experience.Feedback
Keep shooting and build up your practice and experience. Look at your images objectively and learn from the inspiration you get from viewing other artists' work...and not just other photographers. Get inspired by paintings, architecture, cinema, poetry, music...whatever you observe from the world around you and from within yourself. :)
