I caught this photo of a mallard duck flying over the lake in Scherer Park, in Long Beach, California. It's somewhat unusual to capture these magnificent birds in flight, and I was pleased to get this image. The wings outspread and the colors made for a particularly vivid image. Although this species is not yet endangered, there may come a time in the foreseeable future when, like so many other species, they are so rare or extinct, we may only have photos like this to remember how precious they are.
