Location
This image was taken at night of the Arabian Stallion PBMaikai with fill flash to capture the details of his features. The background was added from a picture I also took at night of a Berch tree with the evening moon shining through the delicate whispering leaves. Both images were taken on location at Rainbow Bend Arabian Ranch in Sanger California USA.Time
It was night time after dark.Lighting
This image was taken at night of the Arabian Stallion PBMaikai with fill flash to capture the details of his features.Equipment
Nikon Camera, tripod, flash for fill to capture horses features. Photoshop was used to add a background image, enhancement for feeling, and blending of both pictures.Inspiration
I was inspired by the expression Mike provides in his portrait images. He is a dark bay Arabian Stallion and the night light reflecting off his coat gives me the detail I desired.Editing
I added the background image of the tree with the moon shining through the branches, with the plastic wrap filter to add shimmer to the leaves. Then I blended the two pictures together to make one image. In my camera bag
From my experience in the show ring photographing Athletic Arabian horses, I have learned to carry three camera bodies with different lenses so I would not lose time changing lenses while in the show ring. That way I would also have a backup body in case I had an issue with the camera I was using I could still photograph the event I was shooting. Old habits are hard to break and I always have all my equipment with me because I photograph outside in natural light most of the time and I never know what I may need at any given time, so I take everything with me.Feedback
Timing is everything and knowing your subject and how they react to any situation is the most important challenge you will have to overcome. It is important to understand ahead of time what your subject will do and then prepare to capture the picture you are working to achieve.
