Location
This Photography was taken at a small country foothill Rodeo. What draws me into this image is the expression on the rider's face and the balance of both the horse and rider. The upper background was blurred and all distracting objects in the blurred area were removed to make the horse and rider dominate in the image.Time
This was taken in the middle a hot summer day when the lighting was good and there was no breeze. I was along the rail sitting on the ground using the rail to stabilize the camera and directly across from the loading pins and gates to catch all of the action as the gate opens.Lighting
I love using natural light always knowing where the sun is at all times.Equipment
I was using my Nikon digital camera with a 70 - 200 lens. I do not use a tripod when doing action shots because they limit my need for fast movement and control of my angles as I am restricted by the action I am trying to catch.Inspiration
My love of horses and capturing the action in my images.Editing
I have been a professional equine photographer working for over 30 years in the arenas and show rings, and on Arabian Horse ranches. The backgrounds are busy with rails, fences, people, and objects, that are not good for beautiful images. I have learned over the years to correct this problem with a lot of post-processing to remove unwanted objects in real-life work. Some times I like to add different technics to give a sur-real effect like a painted or hand-worked image. I use Adobe Photoshop for my post-processing work and only if my finished project is realistic and the changes are necessary for the needed result. In my camera bag
I always carry two Nikon camera bodies one with a 70 - 200 lens, the other with an 18 -70 mm lens, and I also carry a 300 mm lens with a tripod. Also, I have all my accessories with me for whatever I may decide I would like to do at the time.Feedback
Take a lot of pictures, constantly especially when doing horses with fast shutter speed. Most importantly you always need their ears forward, and they need to be balanced to get a good horse picture.
