Basically, I've been trying to get this type of shot for 4 years now. I moved to Georgia in 2016 and since then, I've experienced some incredible storms. Every time I went to try and shoot some lightning storms, I was either not lucky enough with my timing, or the storm went away too quick and I wasn't able to get anything good. A few days ago, I saw a storm approaching and so I set up my camera and started shooting. As it got closer and started to rain on me a a bit, I decided to go inside for safety. Something inside of myself told me I wasn't done shooting yet, and so I went back out on my patio where I was covered from the rain, set up my new composition, and started pressing my shutter every 30 seconds. Finally, during one of the exposures, I saw the bolt with my own eyes, then waited about 8 seconds more for my camera to finish its exposure, and was blown away by what I saw on the back of my camera. I immediately uploaded it to my computer and started doing a little post-production. I got very lucky with the lightning bolt striking in the spot that it did, and I am still extremely excited and proud of the result.
