De Hoop is a windmill built in 1888 in the Dutch hamlet of Appel. The mill replaced the scaffolding mill burnt down the road, which dates from 1863. De Hoop is an eight-sided flour mill of the type of a mill with a stone substructure and a wooden, thatched roof superstructure. The wooden octagon comes from a Zwolse oil mill , which in turn probably comes from the Zaan region .
