The photo was taken at Gili Air Island, in Indonesia, during a trip in 2019. This island has a mosque, as 85% of Indonesian population is Muslim, and people come from other islands next to it to join in pray. You can find people using turbans everyday, all the time.Time
This photo was taken at 9 am. That morning I woke up ready to go out for the first of my daily walks to photograph my trip. I left my bungalow towards the coast and I met a family of Muslim women who were coming to the mosque from one of the bordering islands. Without hesitation, I chatted with some of them for a while and took advantage of the moment to take portraits of them.Lighting
This portrait has beautiful lighting, since it was not only taken at morning, where the light is very soft, but also that at that moment we were under a tent whose canvas was a transparent white cloth that worked perfectly as a sieve.Equipment
This was shot on a Canon 5D Mark III with a Canon 24-70mm f/2.8ii lens.Inspiration
As a person from the west side of the world, this was my first time in Asian lands. I was fascinated by their culture and their people, to the point that I must have taken more than 200 portraits in just 4 days on these islands.Editing
I always do post-processing of my pictures. I consider that all parts of the process are important, since how you set up the camera values when you shoot, to the digital treatment with the RAW files. I like to give the last touch to the pic by doing color correction, and correcting details that make prettier what it was already pretty. Personally, I love working with sharpness, shadows, contrasts, gradients, and warm and vibrant colors in my pics, and this shot wasn't the exception. In my camera bag
I have varied equipment. As a travel photographer, I always try to cover all the focal range, from wide to telephoto, to be able to work at any distance. I have a Canon 5D Mark III body and I use a Canon 24-70mm f/2.8ii lens for portraits, Canon 16-35mm f/2.8ii for landscapes and architecture, and a Canon 70-300mm f/4-5.6 lens for wildlife, to be there when I'm not close enough and get a great shot. Nowadays, having a drone is a plus to have a different point of view, so I have a DJI Mavic Pro for aerial shots. Finally, to be an all-terrain photographer, I have a GO PRO Hero 7. Up to this point, this are my essentials. In other hand, I like to experiment with other kind of photography like macro, for which I use a macrotubes with a Canon 50mm f/1.8 prime lens.Feedback
Traveling to places implies meeting different people, with different cultures, with different customs, with different languages, with different religions. Talking with them and seeing how they live and how they think is a treasure that you can only get if you travel.
