This should win the Moments in Time contest. It is genuine. It perfectly captures a moment so that the person seeing it can place themselves in the exact time and place the photo was taken. One could never have dived (dove?)from a cliff and yet be able to live that moment vicariously through this photo. This is what photography is supposed to be, not artificially creating a moment with software but actually waiting for that moment to happen and being quick enough to catch it. A cheetah does not create the prey it’s cubs need to live. She stalks the prey with patience, perseverance and the dedication of knowing that the moment may never come again and that tomorrow is never guaranteed.

Behind The Lens

Location
This photo was taken on a trip I did to Mendoza, Argentina in a lake called 'Los Reyunos'.
Time
It was about 6 o' clock in the afternoon. It had been a hot sunny day, and after spending some time at the beach, I flew my drone. I was taking pics of the place when I could see a group of guys jumping to the lake from a cliff, so I asked one of them if he could jump to take him a photo. This was the result...
Lighting
Probably one of the best moments of light to take pictures in a place like this in summer is after 5 o' clock in the afternoon because the lighting is not too hard and soft enough to highlight the objets, and reach a good balance in the whole photo.
Equipment
This shot was taken with a DJI Phantom 3 4K.
Inspiration
I remember I saw a pic on Instagram of someone jumping to a river or a lake, and I thought: 'I would like to take my own but from above'. The issue was to get the diver and the place. Luckily, that summer the planets aligned at 'Los Reyunos' and I found the right person in the right place. Awesome!
Editing
I always do post-processing of my pictures. I consider that all parts of the process are important, since how you set up the camera values when you shoot, to the digital treatment with the RAW files. I like to give the last touch to the pic by doing color correction, and correcting details that make prettier what it was already pretty. Personally, I love working with sharpness, shadows, contrasts, gradients, and warm and vibrant colors in my pics, and this shot wasn't the exception.
In my camera bag
I have varied equipment. As a travel photographer, I always try to cover all the focal range, from wide to telephoto, to be able to work at any distance. I have a Canon 5D Mark III body and I use a Canon 24-70mm f/2.8ii lens for portraits and landscapes and a Canon 70-300mm f/4-5.6 lens for wildlife, to be there when I'm not close enough and get a great shot. Nowadays, having a drone is a plus to have a different point of view, so I have a DJI Mavic Pro for aerial shots, despite I took this pic with my DJI Phantom 3 4K, that I usually use to picture architecture. Finally, to be an all-terrain photographer, I have a GO PRO Hero 7. Up to this point, this are my essentials. In other hand, I like to experiment with other kind of photography like macro, for which I use a macrotubes with a Canon 50mm f/1.8 prime lens, and I work with architecture, by using a Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 .
Feedback
Get inspired by others and explore. Travel to find that place to take the picture you love. As I said before, in this case I was lucky because I found a diver in this great place. The secret was remembering the pic I wanted to take by thinking the one I had seen on Instagram avoiding to imitate it, so I could get the same meaning (someone jumping to the lake or river), but a completely different way, from above, my own version.
