Behind The Lens

Location

This was taken at the annual Woodies on the Wharf, which happens mid June each year in Santa Cruz, California on the Municipal Wharf. The event usually draws over 200 cars.

Time

The event officially starts at 10 a.m.. I like to arrive early, around 6:30 a.m. to catch the cars as they arrive and before the huge crowds. This was taken around 8:00

Lighting

Usually Santa Cruz is fogged in at the early hours of the summer months. On this day, however, we caught a break and the sun broke through early. There was a fog bank hanging on the horizon but it never made it to shore

Equipment

This was shot with a Nikon D7500, Aperture f/10?ISO 500?Shutter 1/1000?Focal Length 350/10.

Inspiration

This is an event I look forward to every year. The old Woodies are a definite favorite of mine and living in a surf town like Santa Cruz makes it even better. It's the nostalgia they bring and the beauty of the classic lines of these autos that make it so special.

Editing

The only post processing I did was to remove some dust spots and convert the photo to B&W.

In my camera bag

I usually pack my camera backpack with two cameras; Nikon D7500 and a Nikon D200 as backup. I also pack a 2.5 50mm, a 18-200 zoom and a 35-300 zoom, along with a mini tripod, a sandbag (for use where a mini tripod won't fit), lens cloth and cleaning fluid as well as a dust blower.

Feedback

Taking photos of classic cars is a passion. Most of the shots you see are relatively the same from most everyone. I like to take shots from all different angles, head high, down low, straight on front and back... anything to make it more interesting. Taking detail shots is also a plus.
