Behind The Lens
Location
This was in Tessier Gardens in Torquay, Devon, England. There’s a popular spot there for wedding photographers and the like. It’s kinda recognisable at this point because most everyone shoots there.Time
This was middayish.Lighting
The lighting was high in the sky because it was noon and a cloudless sky, so the shadows were really harsh - hence the black and white conversion.Equipment
Nothing outside of my usual kit was used. A Nikon D600 and a 24-70mm lens. F2.8 consistent. I love it. It’s jammed now though so I am a sad panda and have to use a nifty fifty until I can replace it. But yeah, this shot? My 24-70 Sigma lens. Highly recommend.Inspiration
Honestly? I like capturing moments. There’s nothing much like seeing an image and being able to feel what they were feeling.Editing
I used Lightroom, it was a basic black and white conversion that I upped the contrast on, I smoothed the skin a little (they didn’t need a lot), and sharpened the faces because as much as I hate it - it was slightly out of focus. I kept it because of the moment they shared though - so this picture... it was ‘saved’ more than processed, if you catch my drift. In my camera bag
I like to travel light - so it’s very likely you’ll see me with one body, one lens, and a little pouch for cards and batteries. However, during this lockdown, I saved some pennies to get a second body and a harness to hold both at the same time. So, now you’ll see me with a Nikon d600 with a 50mm f1.8 prime lens, and a Nikon d7000 with a Sigma 70-300 f4-5.6 lens (until I can raise the funds to upgrade it) with aforementioned pouch with batteries and spare memory cards.Feedback
Go with your gut. Keep shooting. And if it misses, maybe it can be saved! Sometimes emotion is everything.
