Behind The Lens

Location

This photograph was taken at a friends home studio in Arklow, county Wicklow.

Time

I took this image fairly early during my shoot with the beautiful Emma, we were working through a few outfit changes and I remember this was one of the first or second outfits.

Lighting

Lighting was fairly simple, I was using a 5 foot umbrella with diffusion as my key light in the 5 o clock position and a purple gel on the back light placed directly behind Emma facing the grey paper backdrop.

Equipment

The camera was Nikon D500 with battery grip and the lens was my favourite, Tamron SP 45mm 1.8 prime. This is my go to setup and love the sharp, clear results from both.

Inspiration

The shot was part of a great shoot with Emma, we had organised weeks earlier and picked a number of outfits and lighting setups to try on the day, it was a very productive shoot with many beautiful images created.

Editing

All post production was done using Photoshop, blemish removal, skin smoothing, eye brightening and sharpening etc.

In my camera bag

My bag is fairly simple, I use a Nikon D500 with battery grip, my go to lens is Tamron SP 45mm 1.8 prime, this is a fantastic lens and love the results from this lens, I also use a Sigma 18-50mm 2.8 for more wide shots or in tight places. Lighting is all Godox, I have 1 AD400 pro and 1 AD360ii and 2 AD200's I love the portability and compact lights.

Feedback

The advice I would give is to try different lighting setups with all your subjects, do not be afraid to do something different, you will not always get it right but if you don't try you will not find out. Organise your shoots with time to experiment different looks and styles of shots.
