Theyyam is an ancient animistic and ancestor worshipping ritual which predates Hinduism. Theyyam rituals take place in north Kerala between November and March and include the practice of jumping through fire. This is meant to signify the omnipotence of the god manifest and who is usually accompanied by two priests as his protectors as he jumps through the flames.
