Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken during a trek to Vintgar Gorge near Bled, Slovenia.

Time

This was taken during mid morning. Though it was sunny, the waterfall area was in almost permanent shade due to the mountain ranges.

Lighting

The shot was a long exposure one so as to get the milky smoothness of the water falling.

Equipment

This was shot using a Canon 5DS with a 24-105mm lens and mounted of a Manfrotto tripod.

Inspiration

Slovenia is very picturesque and this waterfall was especially so because of the beautiful colours all around.

Editing

There is minimal post processing in this photo. I have just played with the contrast and curves for this one.

In my camera bag

My bag contains at least one camera (I shoot with Canon only) and lenses/tripod as required for the occasion. Since this was a long walking route, I packed only two lenses and a tripod. What i did not have at at that time was a Neutral Density Filter to get a longer exposure, but the shade in the location and the narrowest aperture helped me that day.

Feedback

Carry a sturdy tripod and a remote for the camera. A good ND filter (at least ND 10) is also very essential, especially when shooting waterfalls because you can get amazing results with long exposures.
