Big Boy steam engine came through my town so I went and snapped a few shots. There were so many people near the starting area that I decided to walk down the tracks until it was more secluded.

Location
This photo we as taken in a city that I lived in for the past 3 years. Van Buren, AR.Time
I think by the time the train fired up and continued on the rest of its journey, it was around 10:30am.Lighting
Since it was a bit later in the morning, the sun was not in the best of places, but because of the large amount of steam coming from the train, it blocked out most of the harsh light and have it the drama and depth of light this photo has.Equipment
The only thing I took with me was my Sony a6000 and Sony 18-105 G Series lens.Inspiration
With this being one of the last operational steam engines, it just so happened to stop in the city I lived in. I knew that this would probably be a once in a lifetime opportunity to get a photo of it.Editing
I always use Lightroom, but this photo needed a bit more TLC because the raw photo actually contained a group of 3 people in the bottom left corner. In my camera bag
This specific photo was taken about a year ago so what I carry now is different than what I carried with me back then. Now I carry my new Sony A7riii with a Sigma 24-70mm DG Art lens as well as the Tamron 70-180mm lens. Most of the time I also take my DJIavic Air 2 drone.Feedback
Ultimately, if you ever get a once in a lifetime opportunity, take it. Don’t let it slip by. I never planned or expected to get this shot, but it still stands as one of my most popular photos. Also stay open minded about your shots. Don’t just try to get the “known” compositions, but try to think a little different than other people. Explore the whole area and find a unique way to capture the same subject.
