I noticed that you photos don't have camera settings with them, I was interested in this one because there is so much back light and I don't really know how to take a shot like that. Any info that might help?

Behind The Lens

Location

Studio shoot in LA overlooking downtown.

Time

This was a morning shoot so the morning sun was perfect coming in through the window casting a great golden glow that wasn't lost in the LA haze.

Lighting

I'm normally a studio strobe shooter (control thing), but even I couldn't deny how beautiful the natural light was. I had a white bounce card off to camera right just to give a little fill, but other than that it's all natural sun.

Equipment

Canon 5D Mk IV with Sigma 105mm 1.4. Shot at 1.8 1/3200.

Inspiration

Umm, let's see...Beautiful woman, by a full window, in the golden morning sun. Any more inspiration needed?

Editing

Honestly, other than crop/rotate, just lifted the shadows for a more fully lit look. That's about it.

In my camera bag

Normally I have multiple lenses and lights that I carry. Because I shoot studio most of the time I rarely get to use my longer lenses like the 105mm for this shot, and tend to use 35mm or 24-70mm. Sometimes the 85mm.

Feedback

There are some models I work with that I have to pose, and some that move fluidly and I capture moments. It always starts with the right composition and framing, and I let them know where to center themselves. From there we just create as we work.
