Behind The Lens
Location
It was on the coastline of Iceland in February 2019.Time
Sunrise usually started around 9:30 AM and sunset at 4:30 PM. This photo was taken in February 2019, during which I attempted to capture the softness and golden colors of the light on the mountain and clouds.Lighting
The lighting and colors of the landscape changed from seconds to seconds; I had to take sequential shots to capture the best combination. A real-time video would be ideal for recording the beauty of a sunrise.Equipment
The photo was shot with Canon EOS 5D Mark III along with the 16-35 mm lens without flash on a tripod. The settings were 16F, 1/60 sec, ISO 100, and 70-200 mm at 70 mm.Inspiration
I always enjoy watching sunrise and sunset, specifically their effects on the landscape. Inherent to nature, the resultant colorful changes vary according to the season and location. One day I stumbled into an advertisement about a photography tour in Iceland. I immediately thought it would be a great place to capture these effects during the winter. Of course, many other unique scenic views of nature, such as birds, aurora, waterfalls, and volcanic mountains of Iceland, also attracted me to go there and photograph.Editing
As you look at the photo, it wasn't too dark, requiring a lot of individual adjustments. However, as always, I did use Lightroom to check out the white balance and tweak a bit on the color luminance. In my camera bag
While traveling for photographing, besides the Canon EOS 5D Mark III with the 16-35 mm lens, I carry an old Canon EOS 5D Mark II version with a 70-200 mm lens. It's heavy, but it saves me time and clumsiness for changing lenses. Naturally, I have a sturdy tripod. For ordinary trips, I use Leica V-Lux [type 114] with a 25-400 mm lens, and I also carry an iPhone.Feedback
For a scene like this in a remote locale, my advice is to join a photography group as the guide would provide a specific itinerary and daily schedule alongside convenient transportation. Alternatively, find like-minded friends to scout out your and neighboring areas and then embark on the photo trip together. Safety is of concern, followed by the sharing of joys and interests.
