Location
I took this photo in Chester City .. it was evening and the purpose of my visit was to watch a Winter Watch Parade.. this is a Parade of people dressed in celebration garb just before Christmas holiday.Time
The time was approximately 6.30pm, it was dark and the street lights and shop lights were on .. it is a very popular shopping city so there is plenty of light around.Lighting
The bicycle was a shop advertisement to attract attention .. the inside of the shop was well lit and therefore bright and the street lights were adequate to give good illumination .. I wanted to make sure that the bicycle was the subject and so I chose a composition which excluded most of the brightness of the doorway. It I did not use flash but increased my ISO to improve the illumination as i wanted the reflection to be seen.Equipment
I use Olympus Micro four thirds cameras ..this was a OMD EM1 mark2 camera with a 12-40mm f/2.8 zoom lens.. The camera has in body stabilisation and is great for hand held shots at quite low shutter speeds.. f/3.2 ..ISO 320 .. 1/80second at FL26mm. No other equipment was used.Inspiration
I wanted interesting photos of any subject associated with both the City and the Winter Watch .. I was walking around prior to the start of the Parade and I liked the way that the bicycle was posed creating interest. The colour was the first inspiration but also the fact is that I like bicycles and like to photograph them.Editing
Yes I take all my photos in RAW format and therefore they all need some processing to develop colour, contrast and reduction of noise which is my editing process. The photo did not require a lot of processing. In my camera bag
I normally carry my camera suspended on a Blackrapid cross body strap and always use a wrist strap also for security, this allows me flexibility in carrying and use. I do use one of several bags that I possess depending on camera and lens. I normally only take out one camera and usually one lens depending on my intended use. I have a variety of lenses. Occasionally, I will take more than one camera if I want flexibility rather than changing lenses. I have a flash but tend to use natural light. I have a tripod but tend mostly to hand-hold my photos. I carry a micro-fibre cloth and lens cleaning wipe in case needed. My cameras are all weather sealed.Feedback
I am aware of my camera settings/modes and menus and this is a must for the ability to take photos quickly in low light to prevent having to think and search at difficult times. I tend also to check the light regularly so that I am at the right ISO setting then I only have two quick adjustments to make for shutter speed and aperture .. Then I look at the light in relation to my subject .. I did not want the light from the shop window to distract from the bicycle so framing is a consideration. I try a few different compositions before deciding on my best. Thereafter concentrate on smooth shutter press and follow through with breath control so as not to get movement blur.
