Location
On the Great Orme at Llandudno, North Wales. the Orme is a very large outcrop of rock jutting out into the sea and is a haven for wildlife.Time
It was late afternoonLighting
The sun was on the way to the horizon and the light was warm and throwing long shadows.Equipment
An Olympus E620 four thirds camera and a digital ED 12?60mm 1:2.8?4.0 SWD lensInspiration
I had seen the Kashmir goats in a herd and followed them, anticipating a good photograph when the light was from the right quarter. When I first saw them, the sun was behind them and they were in silhouette. they are magnificent animals. It was a quest and I was determined.Editing
I do post processing with Photoshop, the photos were taken in RAW and had to be normalised with a bit of contrast and levels adjustment. The light was good and not a great deal of adjustment was needed in this case.In my camera bag
It depends, I have an Olympus XZ-1 f1.8 compact camera with an electronic viewfinder which I carry most times with me. If I am going on a photo shoot, I carry an Olympus OMD EM1 with several four thirds lenses and an adapter for my micro four thirds camera ... 35mm Macro, 25mm pancake a digital ED 12?60mm 1:2.8?4.0 SWD Olympus ED 50?200mm 1:2.8?3.5 SWDFeedback
What I did on the day was to move to a place where the light was on the subject but not in my frame. With wild animals such as this, any perceived movement causes them to move swiftly away therefore it is important to stay low and stalk them. Be aware of the breeze that it does not blow your scent to the animals and put your feet down slowly and under control on the outside edge so that noise is minimised. Slow movement and keep low, kneeling or lying using high ground behind you so that you are not silhouetted and detected. Be aware of noises made by the camera (especially bleeps with autofocus) and make sure that the animals do not hear them. Take several pictures at once when you are settled because as in this case the sound of the shutter moved them on.
