I took this picture in Etowah, Tn. not too far from the historic Etowah Depot. The train was actually sitting on the line where you board the train for the Hiwassee River Adventure, which I took some years back and highly recommend it for train lovers. This is actually the same train that we rode as we enjoyed our own Hiwassee River Adventure. I just love the antique passenger cars !!Time
I remember it was some where between 12:00 and 1:00 pm and the sun was peeking through the trees as the wind was blowing a cool breeze. I wasn't using my tripod, I free hand a lot when I travel because I am usually on the move.Lighting
I loved the way the sunlight was coming through the trees providing just enough light to make an array of green shadows along the train. Giving an even more enhanced color to the photo.Equipment
I used a Nikon Coolpix 570 to capture this beautiful train.Inspiration
I chose to ride down the road where the train was parked when we rode it and I really didn't know if it would be parked there or not. I was just completely taken back when I saw the train and it brought back memories of the time we rode it. Plus, I absolutely love trains !!Editing
Yes, I cropped it and played with the exposure some along with a few tweaks on saturation and highlights. In my camera bag
I usually have which camera I choose to shoot with, which is either my Nikon or Fuji and sometimes my Canon. Extra batteries, memory cards and camera cleaning supplies, first-aid kit, bottle water and beef jerky. You can't go wrong with beef jerky to snack on when you hit the trail !!Feedback
I can say that when trying to photograph trains whether they are sitting still or coming down the line, look at how the sunlight is shining on your subject so that the light doesn't wash out parts of the train that really describe it's engines and passenger cars. Safety, always pay close attention and listen. If you can hear the tracks making a noise but don't see the train, get off the tracks fast if you are on a live line because within' seconds that train is going to be in your sight. Do your research and just be aware of the dangers of the tunnels, trestles and live lines. So, with that being said be safe and happy railroading !!
