I shot this photo in my backyard. As a younger amateur photographer, this shot really sparked my passion to continue trying to take harder shots. I sat and stood in my backyard for about 2 hours while this hummingbird continued flying to this butterfly bush that is in my yard. In those two hours I took several amazing shots, but this one without a doubt was one of my best shots.Time
This to this day is still one of my most amazing shots that I am especially proud of. I remember taking this shot in the early afternoon around 2pm.Lighting
For me this shot was all taken based on the natural lighting from the sun. With all of my photography, I never use artificial lighting, I just work with what ever the sun is like that day.Equipment
To take this shot I used a NIKON D5300 camera. I took this shot free handed as I was standing very quietly in place. Most of all the photos that I take are always free-handed.Inspiration
I have a passion for nature photography, especially any type of wildlife photography. The way the sun was so bright, without very many clouds in the sky made it look like such a beautiful day. When I went outside I saw this beautifully colored hummingbird flying around my backyard and at the time I loved photography and I took photos without much thought, because in my mind I pictured how it would appear after I would take a shot. So on this particular day with the natural light being so perfect and while watching this small hummingbird fly around my yard, I decided that I would take the time to focus and try photographing this beautiful hummingbird. This particular vertical shot was inspired by the fact that after having taken a few really nice horizontal shots, I really wanted to focus on zooming in as close as I could to the hummingbird so that its body would be perfectly captured in the shot, I especially wanted to take a straight on side profile shot when the hummingbird was drink the nectar from the flowers. It took some time, but eventually with the perfect timing I was able to capture this most amazing action and profile shot of the hummingbird.Editing
I did not use any post-processing features on this photograph, to enhance it in any way.In my camera bag
I always only use my NIKON D5300 camera, which is the only professional camera that I own as of right now.Feedback
As a very ambitious amateur photographer myself, I primarily focus as a nature and wildlife photographer on the ways of capturing what I want based on the specific angles and lighting that I work with. This passion of mine has been all done by me self teaching myself and looking back at past shots that I have done, in order to reflect on what I could have done better, which I would keep in mind for the future. Especially for taking wildlife photography, it is very important no matter the brand of camera to make sure you have a good lens that can zoom, because with wildlife that constantly moves, you may have to quickly make adjustments to take that 'perfect shot'. Personally, the most important advise that when taking shots, sometimes it takes a long time of just waiting in place or being in what may seem to be a slightly uncomfortable angle to get a worth while shot.
